Music Matters 2024

Syracuse Sounds of Music Association held the annual Music Matters event at Traditions at the Links on October 9, 2024.

Creative red and white centerpieces with musical decorations adorned the room. It was rainy outside, but inside the guests were all smiles as they congratulated Syracuse University Professor and Director of Choral Activities, Dr. John Warren on receiving SSMA’s Ovation Award. Dr. Warren was introduced by Dr. Peppie Calvar of the Syracuse University Setnor School of Music. The Syracuse Orchestra Music Director Lawrence Loh also spoke about his friend John Warren.

After the delicious dinner, the guests were entertained by soprano Julianne Stein who was accompanied by Anne Spink on the keyboard.

A highlight of the evening was when the guests stood up and sang “The Lord Bless You and Keep You” to Dr. John Warren and his family. Directed by Dr. Calvar and sung by all with a great deal of help from the Oratorio Society singers, this rendition brought a tear to many eyes.
